Industrial Wastewater

After completing my PhD, I ventured into the area of industrial wastewater treatment as a PDF, followed by Program Manager, for Dr. Mohamed Gamal El-Din’s research lab at the University of Alberta from which I co-authored 23 high quality journal publications in the area of oil sands process-affected water (OSPW). Although I no longer pursue OSPW research, my research team’s current industrial wastewater projects include research in the areas of bioremediation of arsenic form mine waste rock water (Project #1); BioLargo’s AOS reactor treatment technology (Project #2); and environmentally-friendly gold beneficiation (Project #3).

Project #1: Assessing bioremediation for arsenic released from mine waste rock
Collaborators: Wonjae Chang (CGEE) and Jafar Soltan (CBE)
Partners: Orano Canada
Funding: NSERC Discovery Grant and Mitacs
Personnel: Saif Al Rafi (MSc), Khaled Benis (PhD), and Ali Damuchali (PDF)

Project #2: Evaluation of the AOS reactor treatment train for stormwater
Collaborators: Edward Roberts (University of Calgary), Michael Gaultois (University of Liverpool), and Ning Chen and Peter Blanchard (Canadian Light Source)
Partner: BioLargo Water Canada
Funding: NSERC Engage and Engage Plus
Personnel: Nathan Bettman (MSc)

Project #3: Investigation of environmentally-friendly gold beneficiation
Collaborators: Wonjae Chang (CGEE)
Partner: Still looking!
Funding: NSERC Discovery Grant
Personnel: Daniel Hamilton (PhD)
